The Differences Between Pure Raw Honey and Commercial Honey Brands
We are not here to disparage anyone’s buying practices, simply to provide you with the information to aid you in making an informed decision when you purchase honey. Honey is so popular, it’s hard to meet the demand from local suppliers alone from the general public. This is why approximately 70% of the honey consumed in the United States is imported. Our honey is made in Sierra Nevada Mountains and the great state of Nevada. There are serious concerns worldwide about the regular honey being contaminated with sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners. This is why we emphasis the difference right in our name; Pure Raw Sierra Nevada Honey so you know what it is and where it’s from.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF RAW HONEY
It has approximately 22 amino acids, 31 different minerals and a wide range of vitamins and enzymes. However, the nutrients are only present in trace amounts.
Many studies have linked these antioxidants with impressive health benefits, including reduced inflammation and a lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
What’s most impressive about raw honey is that it contains nearly 30 types of bioactive plant compounds. These are called polyphenols, and they act as antioxidants. While raw honey is safe for healthy adults, not consuming it is recommended for infants and pregnant women.
RAW HONEY IS NOT ORGANIC HONEY
Raw and organic honeys are subject to different regulations in different countries. Perhaps this is the simplest way to explain the difference. Honey that is classified as raw is not allowed to be pasteurized or processed and organic honey must simply come from a bee farm that meets the organic livestock standards of the USDA.
This just means that the bees, the flowers and the honey are not allowed to come in contact with any pesticides, chemicals and other factors that go against the USDA’s criteria.
In the US, there is no rule that organic honey can’t be heated or processed, which means it may not be raw.
